Garner's Foodmart

One of the best things about my job is getting to hear peoples' stories.  Sometimes it's a life story, sometimes it's a business story.  This week, I had the pleasure of hearing both from Mr. Sam Singh, the new owner of Garner's Foodmart.

Mr. Singh is a native New Yorker who found his way to the middle of the U.S. to start his second career.  A former detective in his home state, Sam has a very strong sense of patriotism, and of course has a soft-spot for our local service workers- police, fire, and EMS.

Garner Oil has been a staple in our community for years, which Sam recognizes and respects.  He has made a few enhancements to the business, though, that will benefit our community.  First, it's exciting to announce that the business name has changed only slightly, but still honors the former owners.  The business is now called Garner's Foodmart.  Another change is that the business is now open 24 hours a day, which is especially great for those working 2nd and 3rd shift!  Of course, change is often good, but it's nice when not everything changes!  For instance, Garner's Foodmart still gladly offers house charge accounts and morning coffee, and of course service with a smile and big thank-you!

Sam is pleased with his decision to relocate his family here, and looks forward to learning more about Midwestern living.  He's also very excited to get to know people and get further involved with community activities.  So, I encourage you to do what we Fort Madisonians do best- stop by and give him a friendly welcome to the community!  He's happy to share his story and looks forward to hearing yours, too.
